The auction of Ross Ulbricht's personal belongings has received bids of approximately $31,000 in Bitcoin.
Gate News bot news, dark web Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht will publicly deliver an industry speech for the first time at the Bitcoin 2025 conference held in Las Vegas this Friday.
Ulbricht has been free for four months now. During this time, he has maintained the habit of documenting his experiences and sharing them on X.
Reading his posts provides insight into the impact of imprisonment on him. Ulbricht wrote in a tweet in March: "For over a decade, I haven't had a faucet to turn on. In prison, everything is on a timer button."
"Almost two months after regaining my freedom, I still find myself staring at the faucet and showerhead, waiting for them to turn off! Isn't that strange?"
After Ulbricht was released from prison, he also experienced several "firsts": his first birthday and Mother's Day. The first time he touched grass barefoot. The first time he ate a cheeseburger. Soon, he will attend his first Bitcoin conference.
"I will be giving an important speech at the Bitcoin 2025 conference soon, but I feel surprisingly calm. I look forward to communicating with so many of you at the same time. It feels like coming home," he wrote on X last week.
Ulbricht is also preparing for a period of travel, which "means simplifying life and turning a new page."
He initially wanted to auction some personal items on eBay, but it was difficult to verify his identity, and he couldn't actually sell anything. Later, he turned to Scarce City, a Bitcoin-driven collectibles trading platform, where he listed 13 items from his life before and after prison.
The auction included his prison shoes, tracksuits, and T-shirts (the last two T-shirts came with a laundry bag), as well as three oil paintings he created while in prison, each of which he created in collaboration with another prisoner, Omega, who taught him painting techniques. In addition, there was Ulbricht's prison notebook, his prison locker lock, and three ID cards, two of which were photographs of him with a beard.
The highlight of the auction is three items that hold significant emotional value for Ulbricht: a down sleeping bag, an African drum, a backpack, and a pair of Vibram FiveFingers shoes. Each item was used by him before his arrest in San Francisco in 2013.
The auction will last for three days, and a total bid of 0.2875 BTC (31,500 USD) has been received so far.
