Ministry of Foreign Affairs: China and Pakistan jointly issue a five-point proposal on restoring peace and stability in the Gulf and Middle East regions
On April 1, Wang Ning, spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, presided over a regular press briefing.
Wang Ning said that yesterday, Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, held talks with Dar, the Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, to exchange in depth views on the situation in the Gulf and the Middle East, and reached important consensus. After the talks, the two sides in China and Pakistan issued a five-point initiative on restoring peace and stability in the Gulf and the Middle East. In essence, it is “one stop, two talks, three guarantees”: that is, immediately stop hostilities, open peace talks as soon as possible, ensure the safety of non-military targets, ensure the safety of sea lanes, and ensure the UN Charter’s supreme position.
Wang Ning said that the war in Iran has already lasted for a month, with spillover effects continuing to spread and expand, causing increasingly serious disruptions to peace and stability in the region and the world. It has also created ever wider interference with the stable supply of global energy, the smooth functioning of production and supply chains, and the development of the world economy, which does not align with the common interests of regional countries and the international community. As Pakistan and China are important countries in the Global South, they have raised a rational and just call, hoping to help the international community form greater consensus and build stronger collective force, so as to contribute to easing current tensions and restoring peace and tranquility in the Gulf and the Middle East at the earliest opportunity. This initiative is open. All countries and international organizations are welcome to respond and participate. China will continue to maintain close communication with Pakistan and relevant parties, and play a constructive role in promoting a ceasefire and bringing hostilities to an end.
