ME News message, on March 31 (UTC+8), Google recently posted that it will complete the post-quantum cryptography (PQC) migration by 2029 in order to address the threat that future quantum computers pose to existing encryption standards. Google said that quantum computers will pose a major threat to today’s encryption standards, especially encryption and digital signatures. The threat to encryption has already begun to show—for example, “store now, decrypt later” attacks; while digital signatures are a future threat that need to transition to PQC before being deployed to quantum computers related to cryptography (CRQC). Therefore, Google has adjusted its threat model, prioritizing the PQC migration for identity authentication services, and advises other engineering teams to take similar measures.
