What is AMA in crypto? A personal perspective

I have long wanted to express my thoughts about these damn AMA sessions. “Ask Me Anything” is a nice name for what often turns out to be just another marketing trick.

Look, these “ask me anything” threads have become popular on Reddit, where supposedly anyone could ask a question and get an honest answer. But when this trend made its way into the crypto world, everything went awry.

In 2022, Reddit itself jumped into this Web3 trend with their collectible avatars. Yes, they created millions of new Polygon wallets and made a ton of money. But is this really about transparency and trust? Rather, it's about hype and money.

I am annoyed by this hypocritical image of “uncensored communication.” Most AMAs in crypto are carefully orchestrated presentations where the project team already knows what questions will be asked. And try asking something really sharp — you will either be ignored or given a vague answer.

I have participated in several such sessions myself, and I can say — it's all a show. Technical questions about the token? Here, have a prepared presentation. Questions about strategy? Get the standard answer about the “roadmap”. And if you ask about real risks or contradictions — suddenly there are “technical difficulties”.

These sessions are held anywhere — Telegram, Discord, Twitter streams… But the essence is the same: to create the illusion of openness, while in reality — to control the narrative. After each such session, a sweet “summary” appears for those who “missed it,” where, of course, only the moments favorable to the project are highlighted.

In general, don't fall for these AMA tricks. In a world full of scams and rug pulls, these sessions are just another tool to gain trust and siphon off money. If you want real transparency, dig deeper yourself, and don't hope that everything will be served to you on a platter.
