Vitalik Buterin supports Ukraine three years after the Russian invasion

February 24, 2025 marked the sad anniversary of the three years since Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine. Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, of Russian origin and residing in Singapore, published an emotional message in support of Ukraine on his X account. In this post, he highlighted the resilience of the Ukrainian people and their age-old fight for freedom and independence.

“Ukraine is everything, and even more. Many have worked hard and sacrificed enormously over the decades ( perhaps centuries ) to make it what it is today. I wish the country a bright, secure, sustainable, free, and independent future”, wrote Buterin on his social network.

Constant support since 2022

This statement is part of the ongoing support that this influential leader in the Web3 ecosystem provides to Ukraine. From the beginning of the invasion in 2022, Buterin had firmly condemned the Kremlin's aggression, calling it a “crime against the Ukrainian and Russian peoples,” while wishing safety for all.

His commitment was also manifested through concrete actions. In April 2022, he transferred 1500 ETH ( equivalent to 5 million dollars at the time ) to the Unchain Ukraine and Aid For Ukraine funds to support humanitarian efforts in the country. This donation, significant in the crypto ecosystem, already demonstrated Buterin's commitment to humanitarian causes.

Support for the Ukrainian blockchain ecosystem

Buterin's involvement in the technological development of Ukraine continued despite the war context.
