Brendan Greene, the father of PUBG, is at it again. He is launching a metaverse project called Artemis, but unlike the current metaverses that are hyped up with NFTs, he is positioning it as a "3D internet."
The core idea is: all virtual worlds operate under a unified protocol, just like web pages use HTTP, allowing users to freely create, modify, and share these worlds. The game itself is a "3D web page".
Currently laying the groundwork for three games:
1. Prologue (Open for Testing) - Survival gameplay + Terrain editing, customizable maps generated using NASA data and machine learning, launching in 2025. 2. Unnamed Work 2 — Testing Million-Level Multiplayer Screen Technology 3. Artemis — Final Form, Accommodating Millions of Players
Interestingly, this guy specifically emphasized that **NFTs are not in the plan**. He said that blockchain is an interesting technology, but if it’s not useful, then don’t use it; just use whatever technology is the best.
He also wants to create a decentralized content review mechanism—where the community decides who can stay, without relying on a central big brother.
It is expected to take 10-15 years to truly complete, but Greene is very confident. Will it succeed this time?
