"You Cannot Convert Anything Into Bitcoin," Samson Mow Warns

On Saturday, January 3rd, Samson Mow sparked a new debate within the cryptocurrency ecosystem by asserting a clear distinction between Bitcoin’s scarcity and that of gold, which could soon become more flexible. According to Bitcoin supporters, Bitcoin’s scarcity remains stable at a fixed supply of 21 million coins, and nothing can be converted into Bitcoin. “The Gold Alchemist” from Fusion Threatens Scarcity Mow’s assertion of Bitcoin’s stable scarcity comes after scientists at Marathon Fusion announced they had discovered a scalable method to transmute mercury into gold. According to researchers, future nuclear thermal plants could use mercury to produce about two tons of gold per gigawatt of thermal energy annually. They further emphasized that this newly discovered gold production system does not reduce electricity output and could double the total revenue of nuclear plants. For years, the value of gold has been primarily attributed to its natural scarcity and the difficulty of extraction; however, this may no longer be true for long. Once implemented, the scarcity of gold could become more flexible because it can be artificially created rather than relying on geological factors. This could make this physical asset less valuable compared to Bitcoin, a digital asset. In response to this research, Samson Mow initiated a prolonged debate comparing Bitcoin and gold in terms of value and scarcity. Following his statement, the cryptocurrency community acknowledged that Bitcoin’s supply is capped at 21 million coins, and its digital nature makes replication impossible. This contrasts with gold, whose supply could soon be expanded thanks to breakthroughs in nuclear science. Although Bitcoin can be mined, its supply is always limited to 21 million tokens, so no discovery, laboratory, or technological advancement can alter this cap. Other commentators emphasized that Bitcoin is governed by mathematics and the consensus of a global network, not by geology or chemistry.
