Artificial intelligence is increasingly becoming a frontline tool in the fight against crypto crime.

Blockchain analytics firm, TRM Labs, has launched a new program that deploys AI-powered agents to assist investigators in tracking illicit cryptocurrency activity. The system, integrated into its TRM Forensics platform, allows users to interact with complex blockchain data using simple, natural language queries removing the need for deep technical expertise.

Instead of manually tracing transactions across wallets and chains, investigators can now ask questions like how funds moved or where they originated, and the AI translates those prompts into detailed investigative actions. This significantly speeds up what has traditionally been a slow, highly specialized process.

The launch comes as crypto-related crime continues to grow in scale and sophistication. TRM estimates that illicit crypto volumes reached $158 billion in 2025 while AI-driven scams, using tools like automation and deepfakes, have surged dramatically.

According to TRM’s Head of Legal and Government Affairs, Ari Redbord, investigators are increasingly overwhelmed, handling more cases across multiple blockchains and jurisdictions than ever before. AI agents are being positioned as a way to bridge that gap enabling smaller teams to operate with greater speed and precision.

Ultimately, the move reflects a broader shift in crypto enforcement: as criminals adopt advanced technologies to scale their operations, investigators are now turning to AI to keep pace.
