just realized i need to update my banking details for the grants and honestly it's kind of a hassle depending on which one you're on. if you get permanent grants like old age or disability, you literally have to go to the SASSA office in person—can't do it online. you'll need your ID, proof of your new bank account (bank statement from last 3 months or official letter), and they process it there. takes like 21 working days for the bank to verify everything, so if you want it active next month, gotta submit before the 15th or you're waiting another cycle.
if you're on SRD though, it's way easier—the whole changing bank details thing is online through their portal. just enter your ID number, they send you a link via SMS, click it, add your new account details. but here's the thing: whether you're changing bank account info or your phone number, it HAS to be in your name. no joint accounts, no third party stuff. SASSA won't process it.
phone number changes are important too because that's how they send you verification codes and payment alerts. for SRD, there's a contact details page where you enter your ID and application number, add the new number, get an OTP sent to confirm it. for permanent grants, just call 0800 60 10 11 or visit the office. honestly if you're stuck, calling them or going in person is probably safer than trying to figure out the online stuff. just make sure you're using the official SASSA links—there's apparently fake websites out there trying to scam people's details.
