It is interesting to trace the extent of the Ottoman Empire's influence throughout its history. When you look at the map of conquered territories, you realize how vast this state was.

In Europe, the empire left the most noticeable mark. Turkey was under Ottoman rule for a total of 623 years, which is not surprising — it was the very heart of the empire. Bulgaria remained under control for 515 years, North Macedonia for 542 years. In Greece, the duration of rule varied by region — from 370 to 520 years. Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina also spent 419, 399, and 415 years under Ottoman rule, respectively. Albania was held for 527 years, Romania was divided among several territories with periods ranging from 337 to 484 years.

In the Caucasus, the situation was more complex. Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan experienced different periods of occupation. Georgia was controlled at various times, Armenia for 41 years, Azerbaijan for 26 years. Russia lost the Caucasus regions for 355 years.

In the Middle East, countries under Ottoman rule included Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Israel, and Palestine — all approximately 400-404 years. Saudi Arabia was divided among regions, with an overall period of about 393 years. Kuwait, Qatar, and Yemen had shorter periods of rule.

The African continent also felt the influence of this empire. Egypt, Libya, and Algeria were under control for 365-397, 382, and 315 years, respectively. Tunisia, Sudan, and Eritrea also belonged to the empire for over 300 years. Eastern Ethiopia, Kenya, and other regions experienced shorter periods of control.

When analyzing these figures, it becomes clear what geopolitical role the Ottoman Empire played. Its influence stretched from Europe to Africa, encompassing many countries and peoples. It was one of the longest-lasting empires in human history.
