The Senate Republican tax reform bill will eliminate various federal taxes on firearms and silencers.
Gate News bot message, the Senate Republican tax bill will eliminate federal taxes and regulations on short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns, and silencers, and replace state or local licensing requirements, which is a victory for gun rights advocates.
The bill released by the Senate Finance Committee on Monday will expand the scope of the House of Representatives legislation that exempts silencers under the National Firearms Act of 1934, allowing buyers to avoid the $200 transfer tax as well as manufacturing taxes, registration taxes, and other requirements.
The National Rifle Association of America appreciated this move and posted on X: "This is a huge victory for the Second Amendment!" The NRA also urged its members to lobby Congress to keep the proposal in the bill.
However, Emma Brown, the executive director of the gun safety organization GIFFORDS, criticized the latest regulations introduced following the shooting incident involving lawmakers in Minnesota last weekend. The organization is led by a former Congresswoman who was injured in an assassination attempt.
