Two Los Angeles men attempted to steal over $100 million in Cryptocurrency through home invasion robbery
PANews January 18th news, according to The Block, the U.S. Department of Justice announced that two Los Angeles men attempted to rob and steal over 100 million dollars worth of Cryptocurrency by home invasion. Adam Iza, who claimed to be the ‘encryption godfather’, and Eric Chase Saavedra, a deputy sheriff of Los Angeles County, pleaded guilty to crimes including intimidation, extortion, and tax fraud. Saavedra abused his power by illegally obtaining search warrants and providing confidential information about ‘enemies’ to Iza to assist in his crimes. The two men tracked the location of a victim and attempted to steal a laptop believed to store 100 million dollars worth of Cryptocurrency, but the plan failed when the victim fired a gun. Iza faces a maximum of 35 years in prison, while Saavedra may be sentenced to 13 years.
