Changpeng Zhao's UAE Move
Changpeng Zhao switched to UAE nationality. No extradition agreement with the US there. Smart move? Maybe. But did it actually work out for him? Not really clear.
I've watched crypto for years. Seen things. The markets shift like sand dunes. Regulations too.
Zhao, that crypto giant, picked UAE strategically. No extradition treaty means safety, in theory. Kind of brilliant when you think about it. But by 2025? Things got messy. Legal troubles didn't just disappear. He's still battling lawsuits. Keeps arguing about jurisdiction because of his UAE status and foreign business ties. Courts don't seem impressed.
UAE citizen or not, US judges won't let him leave. Flight risk, they say. Too dangerous. It's almost surprising how his careful legal planning hit such a wall when facing serious regulatory muscle.
The tech world plays by similar rules. Some semiconductor players find themselves trapped - half their money comes from China yet politics says "keep distance." Huawei, TSMC, AMD... they're all dancing this awkward dance. Geopolitics dictates who they can befriend.
The lesson feels harsh but true. Power matters. Position matters. Swapping passports might give you some breathing room, but Zhao's situation shows it's not some magical shield. Determined regulators will find a way.
In this strange market landscape, you need to see clearly. The fog is thick. Opportunities exist, but you must look carefully.
