4 Costco products that seem like good deals but are hated by buyers
September 15, 2025 — 07:00 am EDT Written by Cynthia Measom
Not even Costco gets it right all the time. Although the wholesale club has some incredible Kirkland Signature products at competitive prices with excellent reviews, not all of us shoppers are convinced when it comes to certain items.
Kirkland Signature Toilet Paper
I can't deny that it's a bargain at $1.75 per 100 square feet. However, more than 900 of the 16,000 reviews are one or two stars. I find it frustrating that many buyers detest this product. Complaints include paper that doesn't tear at the perforation, lint particles coming off everywhere, and sheets that disintegrate when wet.
Kirkland Signature Colombian Cold Brew Coffee
A pack of 12 for $19.99 seems like a good deal compared to other brands. Unfortunately, for some of us, the taste of this drink leaves a lot to be desired. One buyer described it as “metallic and burnt” while another went further saying it tastes like a cup of old tobacco spit. How disgusting!
Kirkland Signature Ultra-Shine Liquid Dish Soap
We could save $3.70 by buying this soap instead of Dawn, but personally I don't think it's worth it. The main complaint is the scent of the soap. Some reviews consider it horrible, terrible, or the worst smell ever. Another problem is that the scent lingers. One buyer even commented that the soap left a residue on her iron that she can't remove and now everything she cooks there tastes like soap.
Kirkland Signature Protein Bars
These bars come in a package of 20 for $26.49, which equals $1.33 per bar. It's a real savings compared to recognized brands, which can cost nearly double per bar. However, many of us find these protein snacks inedible — especially the cookie dough flavor with chocolate chips. They are described as dry, doughy, and too sweet with a texture similar to hard-to-chew caramel.
