Arweave has regained market attention with the newly launched computing layer AO, with token price and popularity rising in tandem. Now Sui is also not willing to fall behind; the official team Mysten Labs has introduced its own decentralized storage solution—Walrus (token: $WAL), aiming to create a new wave in the storage sector.

**Background and Team Strength**

Walrus is not a small community project but an official product of Mysten Labs. Most team members come from Meta's early blockchain initiatives, with a solid technical foundation. The official positioning of Walrus is "robust and adaptable like an elephant," with core selling points centered around reliability and risk resistance.

**Relationship and Positioning with Sui**

Walrus uses Sui as its coordination and accounting layer—storing data such as storage information and payment records on-chain with Sui. However, this does not mean applications must be developed on Sui to use Walrus. More importantly, Walrus has its own token economy system, $WAL, which does not directly consume SUI, giving it the operational space of an independent ecosystem.

**Current Pain Points of Storage Solutions**

Current mainstream storage solutions each have their shortcomings. Filecoin and Arweave ensure data security through multi-replica redundancy—each file needs to be stored in dozens of copies, directly increasing storage costs. Another approach relies on complex coding techniques (such as Reed-Solomon erasure coding) to reduce redundancy, but the technical barriers and maintenance costs are significant. The emergence of Walrus aims to find a better balance among these solutions.

Mysten Labs steps in, and the storage track is about to heat up again. It's really hard to say which project will survive in the end.

Mysten Labs is up to something again, but honestly, if Walrus can really reduce storage costs, that would be the right way to go.

The independent token system raises a question... The Sui coordination layer implies cross-chain risk, and if there are vulnerabilities in the erasure coding implementation, the data could be lost. We need to wait for the audit report.
