【Caixin.com】 Affected by the Middle East conflict, fuel surcharges on China’s domestic air routes have been set to increase: segments within 800 kilometers will be doubled, and segments over 800 kilometers will be multiplied by five. On April 1, several Chinese airlines—including Xiamen Airlines and China United Airlines—announced the relevant adjustment plans.

Previously, a person close to China Southern told Caixin that after filing with the Civil Aviation Administration of China, mainland Chinese airlines may independently adjust fuel surcharges for international routes; for domestic routes, however, the infrastructure fuel charges are generally adjusted uniformly. The most recent pricing window was April 5, when it was already expected that fuel surcharges would rise significantly, but the specific implementation period would depend on the situation in the Middle East conflict.
