According to Global Times, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and “RT” (“Today’s Russia”) reported that on April 1, Ebrahim Aziz, chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, posted a message to U.S. President Trump, saying that the Strait of Hormuz will definitely reopen, but it will not be open to the United States.

That same day, Aziz posted on the social platform X, saying, “Trump has finally realized his dream of ‘regime change,’ just with regard to the maritime order in that region!” “The Strait of Hormuz will definitely reopen, but it won’t be open to you (the United States); it will be open only to those countries that comply with Iran’s new laws.” Aziz added that the era of “hospitality” lasting 47 years is gone forever. The BBC explained that Aziz was referring to the period since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

With the Israel-Iran war ongoing for more than a month, the Strait of Hormuz—an “vital artery” for global shipping—has been severely disrupted, triggering a chain reaction such as a surge in global shipping costs and adjustments to supply-chain arrangements. The Strait of Hormuz plays an important role in global oil, liquefied natural gas supply, and transportation. International Energy Agency Director Fatih Birol had previously said on March 16 that the current supply losses have already exceeded those during the 1973 oil crisis. Restoring normal shipping through the Strait of Hormuz is crucial to stabilizing the oil market.
