Nowadays people don't defend what is right, they defend who they like and who they benefit from. Principles have become flexible. Morality bends when convenience is involved. Right and wrong are no longer the standard. Preferences, advantages. If someone is useful, their flaws are ignored. If someone is liked, their mistakes are excused. But when benefit disappears, so does loyalty.

Nigerians don’t actually hate politicians.
If they did,
they wouldn’t defend them like football clubs.
The truth is simpler:
People support whoever benefits them.

Nigeria can be burning,
but once there’s a match everything pauses.
Argentina vs Brazil? Full attention.
Arsenal vs anybody? Full energy.
But ask people about policies, economy, or leadership… silence.
Football is not the problem.
It’s what we’re using it to escape from.

Nigeria is deeply religious.
Churches are full.
Mosques are full.
But corruption is still high.
Crime is still high.
Greed is still everywhere.
At some point,
you have to separate spirituality from behavior.

The goal for most young Nigerians now is simple:
Leave.
Not build.
Not fix.
Not stay.
Just leave.
And honestly, it makes sense.
But also…
What happens to a country
when everyone who can fix it is trying to escape it?

Afrobeats is winning globally.
Artists are selling out stadiums.
But the average Nigerian fan celebrating that success
can’t afford stable electricity or fuel.
Global success.
Local struggle.
That contrast should bother you more than it excites you.

The moment you start taking your life seriously,
you’ll notice something uncomfortable.
Some of your friends won’t clap for you anymore.
Not because they hate you.
But because your growth reminds them of their stagnation.
And not everyone is ready for that mirror.

Men can survive without romance for a long time.
But disrespect?
That one drains them slowly.
That’s why you’ll see a man providing, staying loyal, doing everything right…
and still walk away.
Not because he didn’t love her.
But because he stopped feeling like a man in that space.
