Advancements in humanoid robot facial expression technology
On December 31, Jinshi Data reported that Osaka University in Japan recently issued a statement saying that a research team led by the university has developed a dynamic facial expression synthesis technology, which can enable humanoid robots to better express emotional states such as excitement or fatigue. This technology is expected to significantly enhance the value of interactive robots, enabling them to exchange information with humans in a more natural and human-like manner. In this new research, researchers from Osaka University and other institutions have developed a dynamic facial expression synthesis technology based on ‘waveform motion’. This technology represents various facial movements that constitute expressions as separate waves, such as blinking, yawning, etc. These waves are propagated to the relevant facial areas and superimposed to generate complex facial expressions in real-time. This method does not require the preparation of complex and diverse motion data in advance, while avoiding unnatural facial movement transitions.
